Making a real difference.

Owen Swift

Due to Tranverse Myelitis at the age of 10 months, Owen is paralysed from the neck down. Owen, now 13 has worked hard to regain some movement on his left arm and hand, allowing him to operate his electric wheelchair. His life has recently been transformed by Powerchair Football, playing for Percy Hedley Panthers, Owen has the chance to play a team sport, meet others in the same situation and have fun! Owen was given the opportunity to attend a Powerchair Football training camp in Portugal, where he could meet players from many different countries and be trained by the best coaches in the world.
His mum applied to Smile For Life desperate for help to fund this once in a lifetime trip! We were delighted to cover the cost of this amazing opportunity for a young man who has overcome so much in his life. Owen enjoyed a 7 day intensive training course in October and had a fantastic time! Watch out for him in the next GB Paralympic Team!
